Are we home yet?

Every so often, all I need is a vacation in some other life in some other world. But most of the time, the only way this is every going to happen is if I curl up with a great book. A few weeks ago, I came upon the book Poisonwood Bible by Barbra Kingsolver. A fictional novel that became more real to me than a pinch on the arm. Kingsolver brings light to a well-manicured family that looked straight out of Martha’s Vineyard. They find themselves on a missionary trip to tame the soul of Africa. But taming the human soul would have been the easy part. As the family of four adjusts to swarms of mosquitoes, foreign beasts, and confused villagers, they begin to see that the move might have been for the worst. This is a compelling story of family bonds, and the revelations of a world they will probably never know. After reading this book I was left with a new appreciation of the country I live in and all its amenities I take for granted daily. I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone who understands the importance of independence and a needed reality check.
